Life in a retirement community can be as rich and colorful as you design it. Step into Alice Stambaugh’s apartment home and you’re entering the work and display area of a prolific artist.
Alice’s colorful, whimsical paintings are hung on the walls, stacked on shelves, and sitting upright in bins. Her playful images conjure up clowns and hot air balloons, dancers, clouds, and funny cars. Her works hang appropriately in a living room as it does in a child’s room, or on a greeting card.
Alice’s work is both geometric and free-flowing, modern yet contemporary. Her use of pastels and primary colors is well balanced with white space and cool colored backgrounds. She calls her brand of artistry “rambling geometrics.”
Alice spends a considerable amount of time painting in the art studio she has created out of the second bedroom of her two-bedroom apartment. In between bridge and bingo and after dinner, she retreats to her well-equipped, well-lighted workspace where she easily gets lost in her relaxing, yet exciting work. “It’s certainly nice not to have to cook and do dishes,” says Alice who now finds much more time to paint.
A recent transplant from Littleton, Colorado to the Rogue Valley, Alice is already making headway in the local art scene. In less than two months, she is already showing her work at the Rogue Valley Art Gallery in Medford.
